Encouraging Pasifika Youth in Auckland

Encouraging Pasifika Youth in Auckland

This year’s annual fono (meeting) of the Northern Pasifika Advisory Group (PAG) was held as a Youth Focus Event at Auckland City Corps on Sunday 30 October.

The theme, ‘Let’s Celebrate Pasifika Youth’, aimed to encourage, empower and engage young Pasifika but also to honour and glorify God through their gifts and talents. Pasifika youth from Auckland City, Glenfield, Manukau, Papakura, Waitakere and Westgate Corps took centre stage as they showcased their talent and embraced their culture through song and dance. It was also encouraging to see children, parents and grandparents performing alongside and supporting the youth.

In addition, we were blessed with powerful testimonies and encouraging messages from guest speakers. Cadet Alana LePine, from Youth Mission Support, shared her inspiring testimony and encouraged everyone to say, ‘Yes to Jesus’; and Ronji Tanielu, from the Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit,  shared a powerful and biblical message for youth, challenging them to ‘do business with God’.

Over 260 people attended the event, with corps, family and friends all coming together to encourage and celebrate Pasifika Youth.

As with any Pasifika event, the evening ended with a time of sharing food, fellowship and talanoa (talking and sharing ideas).

We want to thank all the youth for the effort and dedication put into their performances. Our hope is that all young people who attended felt valued and encouraged as we celebrated them in God’s love.

PAG would also like to acknowledge and thank our Area Leaders Captains David and Denise Daly and Mission Support Centre for their continual support of PAG’s mission to empower, engage and enable Pasifika in Salvation Army spaces for God’s glory. We are grateful to those who embody ‘He Waka Eke Noa’ and walk alongside us in this mission.
